FARMINGTON, Conn (Dec. 18, 2024) - Marcus Keenan Named New Certification Committee Chair for the American Association of Automatic Door Manufacturers
The American Association of Automatic Door Manufacturers (AAADM) has a new Certification Committee chair. Among the most important posts in the association, the holder oversees all aspects of the association’s certification and safety training for automatic door installers, technicians, and inspectors. Marcus Keenan, a three-decade veteran of the industry who currently serves as codes and product compliance manager here at STANLEY Access Technologies, is the new Certification Committee Chair.
When the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and Builders Hardware Manufacturers Association (BHMA) make updates to the standards for power operated pedestrian doors as well as power and manual operated revolving pedestrian doors, AAADM’s Certification Committee is responsible for making sure all of its inspectors are aware of the changes, and that the newest revisions of the standards are part of the next certification training and testing program.
Standards are reviewed on a five-year rotating basis. The four overarching standards we train to – including their various sub-sections – aren’t all up for review at the same time. Usually, only two power pedestrian door standards are open for review and change at any given time.”
AAADM Certified Inspectors must re-train and re-test each year to qualify for certification. Currently, Keenan and the Certification Committee are putting together the training and tests for this annual renewal. This year, the tests will be presented in multiple languages (English, Spanish, and French). Once launched, the committee will shift to making sure all Inspectors are aware the testing period is open, that the renewal tests are available to be taken, that they must each take the test by the deadline, and that the renewed certificates are issued.

Keenan and the Certification Committee also prepare curriculum for Train the Trainers events, held each year. Every AAADM trainer – the people who actually teach the updated standards and administer the tests – must attend at least one of these sessions every three years. Throughout the year, the Certification Committee also updates the rolls of eligible Inspectors and fields questions related to ANSI/BHMA standards.
